Mitä duunaat?

Duunailen Azure-arkkitehdin hommia aika laajalla skaalalla. Toimin paljon Azure Landing Zone -toteutusten ja Azuren API-palveluiden parissa. Teen myös paljon yhteistyötä asiakkaiden kehittäjien ja arkkitehtien kanssa. Cloud2:n aikana on tullut tehtyä hommia myös Azure Virtual Desktopin merkeissä. Lisäksi kaikkea muuta pilvitalonmies –hommaa ja paljon kollegojen kanssa sparrausta. Hyppäsin jonkin aika sitten myös pääarkkitehdiksi pariin omaan asiakkuuteen.

Millainen polku on johtanut nykyiseen rooliisi?

Aloitin työt pilvihommissa AMK-opintojen ohella. Jo silloin, kun hain harjoittelupaikkoja, niin vastaan tuli paljon pilviteknologioita ja ne vaikuttivat mielenkiintoisilta. Aloitin pilvihommat jatkuvien palveluiden parissa ja heti vahvasti Azure –kulmalla. Pyrin ottamaan tarjottuja hommia vastaan monipuolisesti, että sai laajaa kokemusta kerättyä aiheesta. Olen jatkanut samaa filosofiaa, että jos vain pöydälle mahtuu, niin en yleensä kieltäydy. Tähän mennessä kaikesta on selvitty ihan hyvin ja urakin on mennyt kivasti eteenpäin. Teknisesti teen nykyisessä roolissani paljon samanlaisia asioita kuin aiemminkin, mutta esimerkiksi pääarkkitehtiroolien myötä työhön on tullut vahvemmin mukaan myös bisneskulmaa ja projektinhallintaa, mitä ei aikaisemmin ole omalla pöydällä ollut.

Liekittävin juttu tällä hetkellä?

Liekittävin juttu mun mielestä omassa työssäni on se, miten hyvä meininki meillä on asiakasprojekteissa. Meillä on sellainen etu, että asiakkaat oikeasti tykkäävät tehdä meidän kanssa töitä. On tosi mielekästä tehdä töitä, kun asiakasprojekteissa on molemmin puolin hyvä ja avoin meininki. Toisena asiana liekittää tekemisen vapaus, eli meillä saa omat hommat tehdä vapaasti omalla tyylillä, kunhan ne hoitaa fiksusti.

Miksi pilvi on helvetin ihanaa?

Pilvi on helvetin ihanaa erityisesti silloin, kun saadaan modernisoitua vanhoja ratkaisuja pilveä hyödyntämällä. Pilviteknologiat olivat jo suhteellisen hyvällä mallilla, kun itse hyppäsin niiden pariin, ja olenkin päässyt kehittymään suoraan pilvinatiiviksi tekijäksi. Edelleen tietysti tulee usein vastaan vanhoja on-premise ja legacy ratkaisuja. Mielestäni pilvi on parhaimmillaan, kun näitä vanhoja ratkaisuja saadaan korvattua uusilla ja moderneilla teknologioilla.

Näin tekijän näkökulmasta, nopeasti kehittyvät teknologiat myös pakottavat jatkuvaan oman osaamisen kehittämiseen ja käytännössä päivittäin tulee huomaamattakin opittua uusia asioita. Eli pilven kanssa ei pääse myöskään oma osaaminen vanhentumaan.

Miksi Cloud2?

Meillä on todella hyvät asiakkaat. Asiakkaat arvostavat meitä, ja tunne on molemminpuolinen – mikä tekee työskentelystä mielekästä ja motivoivaa. Aika ikäväähän se olisi olla päivittäin projekteissa, joissa ei olisi keskinäistä luottamusta. Lisäksi meillä on tietysti Cloud2:lla huippu porukka, jolla on ilo tehdä töitä ja viettää aikaa myös työn ulkopuolella.

Toinen merkittävä tekijä on vastuu ja mahdollisuudet kehittyä. Cloud2 tarjoaa jokaiselle tilaisuuden kasvaa haluamaansa suuntaan ja ottaa enemmän vastuuta, jos sitä kaipaa. Täällä todella pääsee vaikuttamaan omaan urakehitykseensä ja työtehtäviinsä.

Mieleenpainuvin hetki C2-urallasi?

Ensimmäisenä tulee mieleen se, kun aloitin Cloud2:lla, niin vastaanotto oli poikkeuksellisen mukava ja lämmin. Perehdytys oli erittäin hyvin järjestetty ja tiesin jo hyvissä ajoin ennen aloitusta, millainen ensimmäinen viikko tulee olemaan. Pääsin nopeasti mukaan porukkaan ja oikeisiin hommiin myös kiinni jo käytännössä ensimmäisellä viikolla. Ei olisi voinut juuri paremmin mennä.

Mistä on hyvät cloud arkkarit tehty?

Mun mielestä kyvykkyydestä ottaa rohkeasti uusia asioita vastaan ja olla valmiina oppimaan. Uusia ratkaisuja, ongelmia ja teknologioita tulee jatkuvasti ja niitä täytyy pystyä ottamaan haltuun. Myös vastuu ja rohkeus tuoda omia näkemyksiä esille ja haastaa. Erittäin tärkeä ominaisuus näiden lisäksi on oman osaamisen jakaminen ja muiden auttaminen.

Mistä unelmoit juuri nyt?

Ehkä nyt olisi semmoinen unelma, että muutaman vuoden pystyisi olemaan paikallaan ja keskittymään työuran rakentamiseen ja oman osaamisen kehittämiseen, nyt kun sille on löytynyt hyvä paikka. Toisena unelmana on toteuttaa vähän pidempi vaellus jossain pohjoisessa.

Mut löytää yleensä keittiöstä, urheilemasta tai musahommista. Kesällä usein alamäkipyöräilemästä tai järveltä.

Ajauduin vahingossa kahviharrastelijaksi ja nyt kotoa löytyy jo ”kohtuullinen” määrä erilaisia kahvin valmistukseen liittyviä välineitä.

What do you do?

I work as an Azure architect on quite a broad scale. I work a lot with Azure Landing Zone implementations and Azure API services. I also do a lot of collaboration with customers' developers and architects. During my time at Cloud2, I've also done work with Azure Virtual Desktop. Additionally, all kinds of other cloud house-keeping tasks and a lot of sparring with colleagues. I also recently jumped into the role of principal architect for a couple of my own client relationships.

What path has led to your current role?

I started working in cloud while studying at university of applied sciences. Already when I was looking for internship positions, I encountered a lot of cloud technologies and they seemed interesting. I started cloud work with continuous services and immediately strongly from the Azure angle. I tried to take on offered tasks diversely to gather broad experience on the subject. I've continued the same philosophy - if it fits on my plate, I generally don't refuse. So far, I've managed everything quite well and my career has progressed nicely. Technically, I do many of the same things in my current role as before, but for example, with the principal architect roles, business aspects and project management have become more prominent in my work, which wasn't on my plate before.

What's the most exciting thing right now?

The most exciting thing in my work, in my opinion, is how good the atmosphere is in our customer projects. We have the advantage that customers really like working with us. It's really meaningful to work when there's a good and open atmosphere on both sides in customer projects. The second thing that excites me is the freedom to work - we get to do our own tasks freely in our own style, as long as we handle them smartly.

Why is cloud absolutely amazing?

Cloud is absolutely amazing especially when we get to modernize old solutions by leveraging the cloud. Cloud technologies were already in pretty good shape when I jumped into them, and I've been able to develop directly into a cloud-native practitioner. Of course, we still often encounter old on-premise and legacy solutions. I think cloud is at its best when we can replace these old solutions with new and modern technologies.

From a practitioner's perspective, rapidly developing technologies also force continuous development of one's own skills, and practically daily you learn new things almost without noticing. So with cloud, your skills don't get outdated either.

Why Cloud2?

We have really good customers. Customers appreciate us, and the feeling is mutual - which makes working meaningful and motivating. It would be quite unpleasant to be daily in projects where there's no mutual trust. Additionally, we have, of course, an excellent team at Cloud2 that's a joy to work with and spend time with outside of work as well.

Another significant factor is responsibility and opportunities to develop. Cloud2 offers everyone the opportunity to grow in their desired direction and take on more responsibility if they want it. Here you really get to influence your own career development and work tasks.

Most memorable moment in your C2 career?

The first thing that comes to mind is when I started at Cloud2, the reception was exceptionally nice and warm. The onboarding was very well organized and I knew well in advance what the first week would be like. I quickly got integrated into the team and got into real work practically in the first week. It couldn't have gone much better.

What are good cloud architects made of?

In my opinion, the ability to boldly take on new things and be ready to learn. New solutions, problems, and technologies come constantly and you have to be able to master them. Also responsibility and courage to bring forward your own views and challenge. An extremely important quality in addition to these is sharing your own knowledge and helping others.

What are you dreaming of right now?

Maybe now there would be such a dream that for a few years I could stay in one place and focus on building my career and developing my own skills, now that I've found a good place for it. Another dream is to do a somewhat longer hike somewhere in the north.
