Data Governance Model

Owners, classification and a ranked list of your data products, written down and signed off, typically within one to four weeks.

Problem

Which numbers can we trust?

A data platform is a hard first ask. It needs budget, an architecture decision and agreement on whose numbers are right before anyone has named what the data is for. Governance needs none of that. It answers the two questions your CFO and your DPO are already asking: which numbers can we trust, and where is our personal data?

  • • Departments arguing over whose report is right
  • • Nobody can say who owns a data set
  • • The DPO can't map where personal data lives
  • • AI plans waiting on data that isn't ready

Approach

From first workshop to signed-off document

A few short workshops with your people, built on the Cloud² governance template and fitted to you. We write the document from what you tell us, review it with you, and a named business owner signs it off. Typically one to four weeks in all, depending on how fast your people can meet.

Orientation

Scope, stakeholders, your data landscape, and the spreadsheets that are really systems of record.

Domains and ownership

Business domains, data owners and stewards, and the decisions each data set serves.

Classification and residency

Classification tiers, personal and special-category data, EU residency, retention and sovereignty.

Quality and access

Critical data elements, what correct means for each, who may see what, and how access gets requested.

RACI and cadence

The governance forum, its rhythm, its KPIs, and the ranking of your data products.

Document and handover

A Word document plus editable register templates. The handover includes a priced proposal for the lakehouse, built from your own register.

What You Get

One document that ends the argument

Purpose and scope, data principles, domain model and ownership, classification scheme, regulatory position (GDPR, EU Data Act, NIS2, sector rules, DAMA-DMBOK alignment noted), residency and retention, access policy model, critical data elements and quality rules, a ranked data product register, RACI, exception process and review cadence.

Your quote follows your scope.

1–4 weeks

Calendar time

From first workshop to signed-off document.

A few hours

From your people

A named business owner, your DPO or security lead, and someone who knows where the data actually lives.

Why It Matters

The register decides what gets built

Three outputs turn straight into the platform. The lakehouse is then priced against your words, not our template.

Ranked data product register

Tells us which sources, which volumes and which consumers. It sizes the lakehouse.

Classification tiers

Tell us which access, encryption and residency controls are mandatory rather than nice to have.

Access and quality rules

Become the policies and checks the platform enforces technically.

FAQ

Common questions

Do we need a data platform first?
No. There are no cloud prerequisites and no landing zone needed. That is the point.
What isn't included?
Technical implementation, legal review, DPIA authoring, records of processing, certification or audit. Tool selection is limited to a recommendation, and resolving master data is a separate project.
What keeps the model current after sign-off?
Managed Data Governance. It turns the register into a live catalog, runs access reviews and quality scorecards, and produces the GDPR evidence pack every month.
