Data Landing Zone

A secured data platform in your own cloud on AWS or Microsoft Fabric, with access rules taken from your governance model and one of your sources flowing. Typically within one to two weeks.

Problem

A classification scheme nobody enforces is a wish list

Your governance model says who may see what, where each tier may live and how long it is kept. Until the platform enforces it, those rules live in a document and a lot of goodwill. The Data Landing Zone is a governed lakehouse inside your existing cloud, with those rules actually switched on.

  • • Access granted by table, by hand, and never reviewed
  • • Personal data sitting in places nobody mapped
  • • No way to say which domain drove the platform bill

Approach

Ready-made, so it is quick

Typically one to two weeks from kick-off to handover, with one of your sources flowing end to end. That is possible because the building blocks are already written and tested, and the access rules come straight from your classification. Everything lands in your own cloud and your own code repository.

AWS lakehouse

S3 with Apache Iceberg tables, Glue catalog, Lake Formation tag-based access, and Athena or Redshift Serverless for query. Sits next to Bedrock when AI follows.

Microsoft Fabric

OneLake with Delta tables, Fabric workspaces and capacity, and Purview for catalog and sensitivity labels. Sits next to AI Foundry when AI follows.

Zones and tables

Dev and prod isolated from general workloads. Raw, curated and product zones in open table formats.

Access from classification

Catalog and tag-based access policy generated from your scheme, with column and row filters for personal data, federated to your identity provider.

Private and pinned

Private connectivity to sources with no public endpoints on the data plane. Customer-managed keys, EU region pinning and retention rules per tier.

Cost and audit

Tagging per domain, budgets and anomaly alerts. Query and access audit logging with retention configured.

What It Costs

Known price, known timeline

The engagement ends with a qualified next step: design document and as-built, access policy test evidence mapped to your governance model, an operations runbook, a two-hour handover, and the top three data products from your register, each with a source list and an indicative pipeline scope.

From €3,000

Starting price

Your quote follows the scope in your governance model.

1–2 weeks

Calendar time

From kick-off to handover, typically.

1

Reference source

Proof the path works, and the template for the rest.

Every Control Has a Reason

Driven by your own decisions

Each control points back to the clause in your governance model that required it. When an auditor asks why a policy exists, the answer is already written down.

Classification scheme

Drives tags, labels, masking and encryption.

Access policy model

Drives tag-based access and row and column security.

Residency and retention

Drive region pinning, lifecycle rules and snapshot expiry.

Critical data elements

Drive the quality gates on curated and product zones.

FAQ

Common questions

What do we need in place first?
An AWS Organization or Azure tenant with a working landing zone (or a Cloud² Foundation), a federatable identity provider, Terraform accepted, a network path to the reference source, and a signed-off governance model. For Fabric, capacity licensing available in an EU region.
Does this migrate our warehouse or build dashboards?
No. Pipelines beyond the reference source, warehouse migration, master data, semantic models and BI are separate services. So is running the platform afterwards: that is Managed Data Foundation.
Can we run both AWS and Fabric?
Yes. A second platform adds a second landing zone, priced the same way.
