Challenge

Kempower, a rapidly growing manufacturer of electric vehicle fast-charging equipment and software, faced significant challenges in managing their increasingly complex cloud environment. Since Kempower’s IT systems were designed entirely in the cloud from the beginning, they required a cloud service partner to support their growth while maintaining control over their business-critical cloud infrastructure.

As Kempower expanded its operations across Europe, North America, and other regions globally, their partner needed to be capable of delivering reliable, scalable, and transparent cloud management solutions. Kempower's environment spanned both AWS for its charger business applications and Azure for identity management and other business applications.

Kempower sought a partner with deep expertise in cloud services who could help them streamline their cloud operations, ensure transparent cost management, and provide scalable solutions to support their global operations. Cloud2 was chosen to manage and optimize Kempower’s cloud services due to its strong track record in handling complex multi-cloud environments.

“At Kempower Information Management Team we were seeking strategic partner for managing our multi cloud infrastructure and support us on on-going development projects. We wanted a partner to support our growth and provide advisory type customer first approach in all levels of partnership. On the same time, we were looking partner to support our Cloud Software functions on our business-critical charging software solution development and managing.

Cloud2 was challenged to meet our requirements on speed and scalability which they carried out seamlessly during our managed services onboarding project and onwards. Kempower was in phase on fast growth worldwide on the time of partner selections for Cloud operations.”

Solution

Cloud2 was selected to take responsibility for the management, maintenance, and co-development of Kempower's cloud environment. These tasks were carried out in close collaboration with Kempower's personnel.

A comprehensive governance structure was established, which included creating a standardized Microsoft Azure landing zone and optimizing security measures.

Cloud2 implemented clear rules for cloud management and ensured that all solutions were replicable, allowing Kempower to avoid building environments from scratch as they expanded their operations globally.

As part of the collaboration, Cloud2 provided a fixed dedicated group of cloud experts responsible for the day-to-day operations, cost management, and continuous optimization of Kempower's AWS and Azure environments. Cloud2’s Cloud Engineering team focused on enhancing automation, improving cost visibility, and ensuring Kempower's cloud services were fully aligned with their fast growth path.

Cloud2 also introduced 24/7 monitoring and incident management, ensuring that the company’s business-critical systems remained fully operational at all times. This was supported by regular workshops and strategic planning sessions aimed at updating older solutions, developing new automation processes, and enhancing security.

The company now benefits from 24/7 operational managed cloud support, ensuring that their critical systems are continuously monitored and maintained. This 24/7 operational support guarantees maximum uptime, swift incident response, and seamless global cloud operations.

Microsoft Azure is used for Kempower’s internal applications, where Cloud2 supports the full lifecycle: modernizing, securing, and optimizing the platform for smooth, cost-effective operations. With AWS enables Kempower’s end customer EV charging platform, with Cloud2 working closely with Kempower’s internal software development teams to support standardized, scalable, and efficient cloud-native development. Both clouds are managed under a unified governance and operations model, tailored to the specific needs of each environment. Leveraging Cloud2’s expertise, Kempower developed a scalable, automated cloud environment that eliminates the need for custom-built solutions in new markets.

“Deeper partnership was started with well-architected review on AWS Cloud and also with Azure / Entra Health check. These provided us actions points to start developing for e.g. security posture and governance on both Cloud environments. After the onboarding project, we focused improving monitoring and system health metrics together, bringing Cloud2 experts as part of our weekly operations. Key improvement on partnership has been definitely onboarding Disaster Recovery & Major Incidents processes and functional rehearsals.”
